Touted as a facelift in a jar, this is one skin treatment I would firmly put in the power mask category.
It is also ahead of its time for promoting skin longevity with visible results, thanks to its active formulation. First up, let’s talk skin longevity—because every skin expert is. The word 'anti-ageing' is out of date. I have always rephrased that tagline as 'positive ageing', which is a much kinder spin on the inevitability of ageing and a more positive approach to growing and looking older.
Welcome to the era of the beauty biohack, skin longevity. Dubbed the ultimate in skin health, skin longevity is the new frontier in skin wellness. In the same way, we exercise and eat well to take care of our bodies, ultimately to look and feel better—skin longevity is the optimal functioning of your skin cells—a movement towards lasting skin health.
So, back to Environ’s Focus Care + BioBotanical Revival Masque — a product fostering skin health with visible, achievable benefits at home. It is the work of South African plastic surgeon and founder of Environ Skincare, Dr Des Fernandes, recognised globally as a mastermind in skin longevity with ingredient innovations, namely the gold standard in skin rejuvenation, vitamin A. He created this mask to deliver visible results, enabling patients to achieve them from the comfort of their couch.
The award-winning formulation in the Revival Masque, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, was created to address multiple skin concerns as an intensive skin booster that smooths, tightens, brightens, and refines the skin’s appearance. It is also a gentle exfoliator thanks to its blend of skin-loving acids. Asiatic Acid for healing and regenerating the skin, lactic acid for promoting hydration and evening skin tone, and mandelic acid to treat an uneven skin texture. Stacked with those good-for-your-skin acids, it’s designed to lower the skin's pH level, promote hydration, brighten the skin’s tone, and blur the look of sun damage. How and when to use it?
While it may have earned the title of a face lift in a jar, I like to call it a DIY facial in a jar. It’s as effective as a mild in-clinic peel or brightening facial, without actually peeling the skin or causing redness. But, as with all active skincare, do not be surprised if this mask causes a temporary stinging effect, especially if you are sensitive or prone to reactions. It also has a tightening effect as it dries on the skin. If that is the case, build up applications slowly or leave it on for ten minutes only to begin with. Ideally, use this mask only at night (and always apply sunscreen every day).
Or use weekly, then slowly build up to three times a week—or, like me, if your skin is tolerant, after years of trialling the best beauty buys, it works wonders as an overnight sleeping mask on top of your night cream. Over time, it will be your effective daily skin boost.
To use: On clean skin, apply a thin layer of the masque with the provided brush, leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes (depending on your skin type and tolerance), rinse with tepid water, or, if tolerated, use it as an overnight skin-rejuvenating treatment. Apply your night moisturiser, wait ten minutes, then apply a thin layer over top, avoiding the eye area. An ideal pick-me-up for the neck and decollete, too.
