New Issey Miyake

Almost 30 years after the release of the first L’Eau d’Issey, Issey Miyake springs a new summery floral on us. It champions the pureness of water with the delicate magnolia flower. A fragrance that celebrates Mother Nature and a phenomenal fashion designer. By editor Trudi Brewer.

He was a designer of firsts who left his mark on the world and our wrists. Issey Miyake was an architectural fashion designer who created functional yet timeless fashion. Perhaps his most memorable, Pleats Please is a fabric that took the world by storm back in 1993; and is still a keeper in any stylish woman's wardrobe today.
His fragrance, classic and fresh, there have been 59 the last time I counted, and his latest hit stores around the same time the 84-year-old genius passed away. Eau & Magnolia celebrates the essentials of life, water and Mother Nature, and once on your wrist, it's indelible.

What's in it?

The brand calls this a fresh, aquatic, floral fragrance - radiant and delicate, thanks to the velvety magnolia petal, which some say compares to the scent of Champagne. Enhanced by the freshness of pure water, citrusy bergamot and musky sandalwood, it was made for summer. The minimalist bottle, a nod to the brand's uncluttered heritage, is made from 20 per cent post-consumer recycled glass. Finished with a 100 per cent wooden cap (also a first), it's vegan, and 85 per cent of the ingredients are naturally derived.

Why do I like it?

There has never been a L'Eau d'Issey spin-off scent I haven't wanted to wear, and I could drench myself in Eau & Magnolia. It’s multidimensional, fashionable, but everlasting. If I could bottle up the feeling of rain on bare skin, mixed with heady magnolia and a musky finish, it would be this new scent. It does deserve a spot in your seasonal fragrance rotation; it will undoubtedly be in mine.
