Clinique Moisture Surge Intense

The change of season means dry skin, which I am battling right now. So when this newbie from famous skin brand Clinique arrived in the office, I put my hand up to trial it, says editor Trudi Brewer.

Clinique Moisture Surge Intense 72-Hour Lipid Replenishing Hydrator, $79.

It really does not need any introduction. Clinique launched Moisture Surge back in 1988, and this is the latest edition to that family. The brand says this new gel cream offers relief from dehydration, dryness and skin sensitivities for up to 72 hours.

What’s in it?

This cream's three main ingredients help hydrate and calm the skin. First is hyaluronic acid, the moisture magnet that instantly draws water to the skin, leaving it feeling hydrated and plump. Next, activated aloe water to soothe the skin, and finally, cica (tiger grass), an antioxidant green eaten and commonly used in Chinese medicine throughout Asia, which calms inflammation and enhances wound healing. With a clever delivery system called ‘auto-replenishing lipid-filler technology’ that blends the activated aloe water with caffeine and three skin-loving lipids that boost moisture levels and help strengthen the skin’s barrier, keeping hydrating in and irritants out.

The texture is dreamy, creating a welcome glow, on those drier days, I can see myself reaching for it morning and night.

How to use it?

Morning and night, you can use it under and over makeup as a spot treatment on dry cuticles, elbows, and even the ends of your hair, or layer it on thickly as a five-minute mask if your skin feels extra dry.

Why do I like it?

No fragrance and without those nasties (parabens and phthalates-free, oil and sulphate-free also) that cause skin flare-ups, the formula is designed to offer intense moisture, and I can say that is certainly what it does. If you have dry, dehydrated skin, chances are it’s also sensitive so that this soothing cream-gel will be your skin saviour. The texture is dreamy, creating a welcome glow, and on those drier days, I can see myself reaching for it morning and night.
