There is nothing shy about Burberry’s new Goddess perfume. It’s a potent, heady fragrance that vanilla addicts will love. It’s also worth mentioning that the lasting power of this scent is outstanding—so if you struggle with perfume fading on your skin, here is one that won’t. The reason for its longevity is the layering approach perfumer Amandine Clerc-Marie took. “My initial goal for Burberry Goddess was to expand upon the common use of vanilla to deliver a new kind of rich olfactive experience.” Using three different vanilla extractions, the first a vanilla infusion, to give the scent a bright, woody vanilla note. The second is vanilla caviar, which Clerc-Marie says is the first time this has been used in a fragrance. “This innovative new ingredient adds a sweet, rich, animalist vanilla,” Lastly, vanilla absolute, darker and richer, “Enhancing the fragrance with a mysterious, milky aspect," says Clerc-Marie.

What’s in it?

This warm scent's creamy goodness lies in how the vanilla was harvested. Collected by hand, the vanilla beans are dried in the sun for up to seven weeks. Then, they are stored in wooden boxes to mature and develop their sweet signature aroma. That trio of vanilla in different strengths is mixed with lavender, cocoa and ginger root. This is Burberry’s first refillable, burnished glass bottle, and comes with the gold gabardine-inspired label imprinted also in gold on the front - a modern take on what is one of Burberry’s classic designs.

Burberry Goddess EDP 30ML, $114 50ml, $207, 100ml, $300.

Why do we like it?

It’s warm and sweet without being overpowering or cloying. The addition of lavender adds a woody appeal. Its luxe-rich quality makes it perfect to wear on a warm sunny day, and that hint of woody intrigue makes it a no-brainer for nighttime wear. You can't go wrong with this scent if you are looking for a grown-up take on what could be a timeless vanilla-laced fragrance.

The Face

British-French actress and new ambassador for Burberry Beauty, Emma Mackey, features in the brand’s digital campaign, Running with Lions, courtesy of CGI; Mackey said, “To me, lionesses represent female unity and strength. They are confident and move together. Much like them, we stand on the shoulders of the women who came before us and those who bolster us throughout our own lives.” Emma Mackey.
