It’s a day to smile and celebrate your favourite lipstick shade, from sheer to modern mattes, and lip balms that not only drench skin in hydration but act like a lipstick. This July 29th calls for a painted pout, and there is a formula to suit every style, says editor Trudi Brewer.

Image BeautyEQ featuring Elizabeth Arden Lip Color
Lipstick has the power to lift your spirits and brighten your smile while defining your style. It’s also a great measure of our economic mood; coined the Lipstick Index, sales (which are up again, by the way) suggest that when we feel down about business, those less-expensive purchases such as lipstick go up - proving it’s an affordable way to boost our mood, right?
Having a day dedicated to celebrating all things lipstick is the perfect time to share our favourite formulas from Life Pharmacy.
Happy #NationalLipstickDay.
ELIZABETH ARDEN LIP COLOR LIPSTICK, in Notably Nude $62
Creamy and boasting excellent colour payoff, this lipstick collection is enriched with Arden’s famous ceramide anti-ageing formula, vitamin E, and the hero ingredient Maracuja oil. Together, these ingredients help this hydrating formulation stay in both cream and matte finishes that stay in place and don’t bleed into fine lines. Yes! There are 26 shades, pictured here, Nude Blush.
Clarins Lip Oil Balm, $59
This is a crowd pleaser when it comes to comfort and colour.
A lip balm formulated from 96 per cent naturally derived ingredients, including potent plant oils like sweetbriar rose, jojoba, and hazelnut oils, helps nourish, while a plumping peptide firms. There are six shades, pictured here as a great winter pick-me-up, Fig.
Shiseido TechnoSatin Gel Lipstick, $56
Hands down, one of our most stunning, weightless red lipsticks, thanks to a ‘Stretch-Flex Technology,’ the brand says, is similar to a mesh in that it weightlessly wraps lips in a long-lasting, cushion-like texture. They also promise no feathering or cracking. That’s because the formula contains 68 per cent skincare ingredients, namely, cold-pressed safflower oil, which gives this lipstick its slip. But it’s the chiselled bullet that makes it unique, which the brand calls intuitive, and helps with a precision application. There are 20 shades; pictured here is Red Shift.
YSL Rogue Volupte Candy Glaze Lip Gloss, $81
This soft, summery coral colour drew us to this lipstick. Then, the delicious, balmy, nourishing formula of hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and mango oil melts onto the lips, making it a keeper. It’s an everyday lip balm loaded with juicy colour. The range features 13 pretty colours, pictured here, Coral Excitement.
Lancôme Lip Idole Butterglow, $72
Created to make your lips glow, this buttery balm is supercharged with hydrating and firming squalane and ceramides, forming the ideal combination of lip colour and nourishing balm. There are 10 shades pictured here. Keep it Glowy.
