Joy-fuelled, this floral fragrance was inspired to bring out the wild and free spirit in all of us, says editor Trudi Brewer. So who better than rockstar Miley Cyrus to be the face of Gucci's new #FloraFantasy, right?

If you gravitate toward floral fragrances for summer that lean sweet, this new perfume from Gucci smells just like it sounds. The scent hero’s one of our favourite flowers, tropical gardenia, which has long been a symbol of purity and gentleness. According to Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele, fragrances are explorations, and flowers, in particular, represent a world of infinite possibilities. "Just as you can delight in drawing out different notes from a bouquet, in this case, gardenia, the scent is unusual, sensual and intense. I had fun building a surreal and enchanting world around Miley Cyrus, creating a playful contrast between this artist with a rock 'n' roll spirit and a flowery universe."

What does it smell like?
A joint project for perfumers, Lebanese Honorine Blanc and Gucci's go-to guy, Spaniard Alberto Morillas, the first spritz delivers the blend of delectable pear blossom, mandarin and a hint of red berries. Next, those intoxicating white tropical flowers include jasmine, frangipani, and the star bloom, heady gardenia, which adds a velvety, rich green undertone that is hard to miss. Finally, what allows it to linger is the creamy brown sugar and musky patchouli.
Why do we like it?
If fragrance bottles are your thing, this is a keeper. Alessandro Michele reimagined the bubblegum pink lacquer vintage-inspired bottle dressed with a distinctive floral pattern for this fragrance. This newbie reminds me of the first Gucci Bloom that launched in 2017, which is still on my all-time favourite list - the same perfumer Alberto Morillas created that blend too. With jasmine, tuberose and Rangoon creeper (that grows in Asia, a red, fruity flower that to me smells like a blend of jasmine and honeysuckle), it is similar but with the added bonus of gardenia. If this fragrance was created to give you an instant mood boost, make you feel feminine and confident while connecting you to memories of people and your past, then Gorgeous Gardenia is everything and more. It's one of those fragrances that I can't wait to wear again.
