GRANT BURGE wines

Ok I admit it, I often buy wine on how it looks, the label does influence my purchase and it seems, I’m not alone. According to some online research I found around 82 per cent of us do just that. With so many wines to choose from we thought we would share a couple, we’re enjoying right now - the latest from Grant Burge says Editor Trudi Brewer.

Grant Burge Pink Ink, $20

I love a full-bodied rose. Sunshine and a glass of chilled rosè go hand in hand. So, this new addition to the Grant Burge cellar is as rich as rosè can get, yet easy to drink all afternoon. With hints of cherry, raspberry, white peach. The winemaker, Paulo Correia's challenge, has been to make reds that are so dark they looked like ink, but why stop at red when you can make an impressive rosè - he has nailed it, in my opinion. This 2021 pink has a dash of pinot noir to give it a creamy acidity, made with fruit grown in the Barrosa Valley in South Australia - perfection.

Graze with: Soft creamy brie, ciabatta and green olives.

Serve with:  Feta and cherry tomato tartlets with a crisp green salad.

Rating: 19/20

Grant Burge Barossa Shiraz, $19

Our editor Trudi’s first choice of wine is always a glass of chilled rosè, preferably a dark pink. However, I am in heaven with a glass of room temperature Shiraz. I can taste the plum, dark cherries, and chocolaty after taste in this inky rich, red drop. It's delightfully easy to drink for a 2020 vintage; this Aussie red deserves to be a top seller. So for a romantic dinner for two or to centre stage on your festive table - this is a brilliant buy.

- Style director Louise Hilsz

Graze with: A sharp aged cheddar or Havarti, parmesan crackers and black olives.

Serve with: Mushroom risotto and salad greens and a squeeze of lemon.

Rating: 19/20
