Electric Ink Tattoo Care

A tattoo is an extension of your style, a personal picture that tells your story. Style director Louise Hilsz shares a range of skincare that is putting the gloss back on her ink.

Electric Ink Tattoo Care

From simple lines to bold splashes of watercolour, even mini pet faces, tattoo trends have never been so colourful. While the artist's skill is paramount, what makes your ink unique is the way it looks years after the artwork is completed. Enter the first vegan-friendly range of skincare, specifically designed to groom your tattoo - Electric Ink Tattoo Care. Louise Hilsz rates the range.

What is it?
There are three products in the range, including a moisturiser, oil and vibrancy serum. Each is loaded with a blend of medicinal and exotic natural ingredients.
What's in it?
The leaf sap from a South African flowering plant (called Bulbine frutescens) boosts the natural collagen production in the skin. White lupin seed extract enhances firmness, while nourishing oils, including Inca Inchi seed from the Amazon and virgin coconut, work to nourish and protect the skin. Finally, vitamin C protects against UV damage, which is often the cause of ink fading. Combining those ingredients also offers a gorgeous tropical fragrance.
The verdict?
A picture speaks a thousand words, and as you can see from the before-and-after shot below, after two weeks, my pet portrait (of my beloved dog, Pinky) is looking better than ever - I am hooked.

Electric Ink Defining Body Oil.

Electric Ink Defining Body Oil, $35.

This is the game-changer product in the range for me. Not only does it smell heavenly, it's not greasy, just instantly glossy once on the skin. You only need a small amount, and the moment you apply it, the colour of the tattoo looks revived.

Electric Ink Vibrancy Serum

Electric Ink Vibrancy Serum, $40.

Containing the most potent ingredients in the range, the oils and plant extracts, once blended with an amino acid, work like a skin conditioner, to balance the pH level in the skin (apparently, when skin is balanced at a pH of 5.5, it's healthy and looks good). This product works hard to revive an aged-looking tattoo, and give it back the vibrancy it once had. I use this serum weekly before bed as an extra hydrating boost.
