Ever wished you could have a bespoke hair colour that celebrates the notion of being who you want to be? I think this is the first new season in-salon hair collection that does just that, says editor Trudi Brewer. Here she heads back to her hairdressing roots, rediscovering the best from Schwarzkopf Professional with their new True Colours collection.

Inspired by Mother Nature, Schwarzkopf Professional's autumn-winter colour collection explores the raw beauty of our natural surroundings. The new True Colours campaign taps into the unique hues of Australia's rugged landscapes and botanicals. From earth-rich tones inspired by clay, vibrant sunbursts of copper and rich reds inspired by trees and flowers, a broad palette of shades for top hair stylists from Australia and New Zealand to work with. The talented artistic team led by Schwarzkopf's national ambassador and recently crowned Australian hairdresser of the year, Dee Parker Attwood, also includes Wellington-based stylist Chinney Yeap of Salute Hair and Day Spa. A career-high for Yeap and a chance to share her skills to inspire up-and-coming hairdressers. "I felt so honoured to work with the amazing stylists on this campaign. They are such down-to-earth people, and it was nice to finally be able to fly and to get involved with some creative content with our Australian friends," Yeap told editor Trudi Brewer. When asked what was her favourite look from the collection? "It's tough to choose a favourite; each colour and model was so different, so every approach and technique, in turn, was different. However, I did get to do my freehand balayage on the luscious afro, my absolute dream hair."

Schwarzkopf Professional's True Colours collection was created using the heritage colour IGORA Royal, which offers true-to-swatch colour results. The new high lift colours in the range are formulated to achieve ultimate light blonde shades. While the popular BLONDME colours guarantee brilliant results for any shade of blonde you desire.

How to get the look
So, if you're looking for a new colour, Yeap says, "There is something for everyone in these looks from rich and glossy to a lived-in bespoke balayage, a pastel or a vibrant red. It speaks to every hair type and woman." Yeap suggests, "Embracing a new colour comes down to correct colour consultation from your hairdresser. It's essential to figure out what the client is after and how much of a change they want, would maintain it, and the most important thing is colour matching for their correct skin tone when choosing a new colour."

The styling products
The new Schwarzkopf Session Label styling range helped create the finished looks in the True Colours collection. The Mousse and The Flexible Hairspray are Yeap’s favourites. "This combination features in my essentials kit for styling my client's hair. They leave no sticky residue, just soft workable, bouncy hair."
