TikTok food trends worth trying

The beauty of TikTok is that you just never know what you’re going to get. Yes, you get dancing and all the chatter, enough to lure anyone in but what we love are the cooking videos. With all these lockdowns globally some amazing food hacks have come out through TikTok. Style director Louise Hilsz is brushing up on her culinary skills and shares her picks of what to try.

Corn Ribs

As a vegetarian this recipe really speaks to me. I don’t have an airfryer so will be making in the oven. That said I think I should get an airfryer - comes up in so many recipes.

Carrot Bacon

I love vegan cook Tabitha Brown and her recipe for carrot “bacon” is just one of them. Like corn “ribs” this viral recipe involves an air fryer, but you can make it in a conventional oven too.

TORTILLA WRAP FOLD

All it took was one vertical slit in a flour tortilla for us to never look at a wrap the same way again. The tortilla fold “hack” is equal parts logical and versatile: Create a slit halfway through the tortilla’s diameter, divide it into four quadrants, then fill and fold before crisping in a skillet.

Pesto Eggs

Eggs fried in olive oil? Yawn. Eggs fried in basil pesto, however, amazing. The premise is simple: Since pesto is mostly oil, you can use it as a cooking fat to fry or scramble eggs in a skillet. Add a piece of ricotta toast and a few slices of avocado and you’re really cooking with…pesto.

Smashed Brussel Sprouts

If your like me and was forced to eat boiled brussel sprouts as a child and hate them and don’t eat bacon (another great way of making brussel sprouts taste better) then this way of cooking is def worth a try. A nice little vege snack while working from home.

Potato Galette

It is like a hashbrown but 1,000 times better. Cooking With Shereen‘s Potato Galette video has gone viral on TikTok during the pandemic. It has been viewed 18 million times in fact—that’s how viral it is! Looks simple enough to try this weekend with pesto eggs.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookies

It is hard to believe these addicting cookies have no flour and require only 5 simple ingredients! You probably have the ingredients in your pantry and if you are having a PB and chocolate hankering (because, c’mon, who isn’t?!) try this super simple recipe.

Baked Oats

At first I wasn't sure what all the fuss was but when I searched the hashtag #bakedoats wow was I impressed. It’s like a vegan dessert you have for breakfast and with so many flavor options to add you can really have fun with this
