In-flight beauty

Now that the borders are open we can finally enjoy the luxury experience of international travel. Flying takes its toll on your skin and energy levels. However, staying relaxed and looking your best at 38,000 feet is possible. Editor Trudi Brewer shares her in-flight beauty buys, so when you reach your destination, you will look and feel refreshed.

Before you take off

Pump up your water intake 24 hours before taking off. Alcohol and coffee will disrupt the quality of your sleep, as does fatty or spicy meals ahead of a trip. We aim to eat fewer carbs, and more protein before we travel, all this prep helps get your circadian rhythm on track for when you reach your destination. Once checked in make sure you visit the Fiji Premium Lounge with a range of drinks and (delicious Pacific-inspired delights), so if like me, you arrive with lots of time to spare, this is the place to relax before boarding your flight.

Stay hydrated

Remove your makeup once you take off, pack cleansing wipes, so you can clean your face from the comfort of your seat. Choose a brand infused with micellar, these towelettes double as stain removers on clothing if you have any spillages. A soothing water spray, lip balm, and hydrating sheet mask are essential in-flight friends. When travelling on the Fiji Airways A350 - 900 XWB, there are 33 business class seats and each has direct aisle-access, in a 1-2-1 configuration. After the inflight meal service, each turns into a lie flatbed, with lots of space to stash your skincare. It is hands down the quietest cabin I have ever travelled on, and the noise-cancelling earplugs and sleep mask in the amenity kit just add to the comfort factor. The air recycling systems onboard help to give you the best sleep, which means arrive feeling fresh and in that holiday mood. It’s easy to see why the Fiji Airways crew are ranked among the top 20 in the world and the ‘Best in Australia Pacific’ - the service is faultless and the crew are on hand with 24 hours service during every flight.

What to wear

Dressing up and being comfortable isn't as tricky as it sounds. A cashmere sweater and cropped pants with sneakers is my go-to look for travelling on business. Pack a blazer and loafers to dress post-flight that way, you can go straight from the plane to a meeting with ease. Always avoid wearing anything constricting in flight; your aim is comfort over high fashion. Finally, my flying wardrobe staple is a lightweight cashmere scarf, that doubles as extra warmth if you feel the cold.

Caroline Sills Pablo cashmere tee, $389. Nili Lotan Daphne velour sweatpant, $598. Gucci Women’s Ace Sneaker with Bees and Stars, $1070. Elle + Riley Cashmere Featherweight Wrap, $498.
