Marc Jacobs Perfect EDP, $199

Marc Jacobs is a genius at branding. He's no novice in making fragrance (he has over 100 in his portfolio). His latest is Perfect. He's the first designer to use this polarising word - at first, I thought, that is a lot to aspire to; after all, perfect means you're entirely free from faults or defects - impossible to achieve, and who would want to be perfect? Jacobs has the word 'perfect' tattooed on his wrist, a constant reminder, "When I'm looking at myself and wishing I could be stronger in this way or better at that thing, I can say no, I'm exactly how I need to be right now - perfect." He told media, "My new fragrance, Perfect, was inspired by my belief that we are all perfect as we are." This fragrance is an unconventional clash of fresh flowers and calming milky woods. It's quirky, unpredictable, and utterly unique - just like Jacobs. Read on to find out what it smells like.

Perfect is nothing you would expect and everything it needs to be.
— Marc Jacobs

The bottle

A nod to the designer’s retro-inspired fashion, the eye-catching cap is piled high with mismatched charms. A banana, domino, pink and blue shoes, a pussycat bow, a silver star balloon, and festive cherries. Jumbled together imperfectly, handpicked and designed by Jacob himself.

What's in it?

It's feminine but unexpectedly woody. Fruity thanks to tart rhubarb, but still that softness of a delicate floral courtesy of narcissus (from the daffodil and jonquil family of spring blooms). But it's after an hour that the creamy blend of almond milk and cedarwood are heightened by a synthetic ingredient known as Cashmeran. Together this fragrance develops into a spicy, fruity aroma that wraps around you to give a cocooning effect.

Why do we like it?

Jacobs finds perfection in imperfection, and he's never been afraid to be different. Wearing Perfect is the ideal reminder to express your individualism and attitude regarding the fragrance you choose. This fragrance is a good reminder that scent is personal and you should wear anything you like, anything that gives you the confidence to say I am #perfectasIam
