Mascara edit

It's without a doubt beauty director, Sarah Simpson's desert island beauty product and for good reason - what are lashes without lashings of mascara? Here are her picks for the season.

A range of different mascara's lined up against a white background with a black mascara smear in the middle

Volume, length, and curl are all on offer from this clutch of new season mascaras. We showcase six that have lifted my lashes, to new heights.

Benefit BAD Gal BANG! Volumizing Mascara

Benefit BAD Gal BANG! Volumizing Mascara, $45.
Boasting an impressive 36-hour volume effect, the latest launch from Benefit is set to change the way mascara is worn. Created using space technology apparently, there are aero particles in this formula, that make it lightweight yet heavy hitting where volume is concerned. The slimline wand also allows for complete lash coverage from the roots to tips.

Lancôme Grandiôse Wide-Angle Fan Effect Mascara

Lancôme Grandiôse Wide-Angle Fan Effect Mascara, $62.
It made waves in the beauty world when it launched in 2014 and was the first brand to reinvent the way a mascara wand looked. With its graceful, swan-like neck design, this launch from Lancôme is set to ensure lashes are completely covered from root to tip, not to mention perfectly fanned outwards creating a covetable doe-eyed look. No wonder it's still a favourite for so many.

L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes in Black

L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes in Black, $30.
Not only an impressive formulation (L'Oreal tend to nail their mascara game), but this brush is also one of the best in the business. Coined a 'millionizer' brush, this design contains long and short bristles enabling defined, long and fanned out lashes.

The Balm Mad Lash Mascara

The Balm Mad Lash Mascara, $40.
With its curved comb wand, this mascara works to create volume and length in a quick flick of the wrist. Take advantage of the plastic molded wand to really get down to the root before wriggling it up through the length of your lashes.

Shiseido Perfect Mascara

Shiseido Perfect Mascara, $51.
This favourite from Shiseido has been created with length and definition in mind. Boasting a 16-hour wear time, this non-clumping formula which also contains a camellia oil complex to nourish and condition lashes glides on smoothly allowing for mutiple coats to be layered with ease.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara, $57.
Fancy sky-high lashes? This might be the mascara for you! With a formula which works to offer not only volume, but curl and lift too, this is another best-seller for the brand. Created incorporating three high-volume fibres encased in a mousse-like base, this mascara glides on lightly but packs some punch after one or two coats.
