I have been on a health kick for about 18 months, and while it needs to be flexible and easy to follow, some things have stayed constant. My morning routine never changes. I have reignited my love of running (I try and run 5-6km five times a week). My protein intake has ramped up, not only does it help me to stay feeling full, longer, it has helped me cut out carbs and sugar. I start each day with a smoothie. Protein powder, with nut milk, full-fat yogurt and seasonal fruits - it's pretty simple and so delicious.

Editor Trudi Brewer whips up her morning smoothie and smoothie bowl using her new Breville the Kinetix Control blender.

Here's how to create the most divine start to your day, BeautyEQ style.

If you are a smoothie addict like me, you do need to shake up the ingredients to keep it interesting. I love a green smoothie, I dabble with spirulina and kelp powders, I always add protein powder and full-fat Greek yogurt, with SO GOOD Almond and Coconut Milk unsweetened as the base to every smoothie I make. Nut milk is loaded with nourishing fat that offers skin-loving nutrients that improve collagen levels in the skin an help thicken the hair. Drinking nut milk is an easy and brilliant addition to any beauty routine  - not to mention how a large spoon of protein powder in any morning smoothie will help you stay full for longer. My pick includes Welleco Super Elixir Nourishing Protein in Vanilla or Clean Green Protein Just Natural.
And lately, I have been adding flower extracts. For 2018 floral flavours, are the obsession for health experts. We are well aware of what flower extracts can do for your skin and the trend for lavender lattes to hibiscus tea and elderflower cocktails (with and without the vodka), easily translate to smoothies, my favourite - ‘rose-flavoured everything,' are bang on trend. According to health experts edible blooms are not only delicious and full of antioxidants that improve your skin, hair and nails -  they are pretty unst-gram worthy as well.

In a bowl

My love affair with the superfood smoothie bowl began a few years back on a family holiday to the island of Oahu, in Hawaii. I have tried to keep that holiday vibe alive in my kitchen well after retuning, creating my own version of this tropical-inspired morning treat. Thicker than a traditional smoothie, a smoothie bowl is more ice and fresh fruit with less nut milk blended to form the consistency of porridge. And after months of trial and error, the SO GOOD Coconut Milk unsweetened is the perfect base to blend with frozen and fresh seasonal fruit, oats, flax seeds, chia seeds, goji berries and bee pollen. Then the fun part is al that is left to do. Dressing up the bowl with nutritious nuts, seasonal fruits, and edible blooms.
