The latest buzz in anti-ageing is 'SkingenecellEnmei' (skin-gene-cell-enmei) a new complex created by Shiseido. Editor Trudi Brewer discovers what this nature-inspired formulation can do for your skin.
Today great anti-ageing skincare is a blend of science and nature, and one brand to go the extra mile is Shiseido. The new Future Solution FX skincare line includes SkingenecellEnmei, inspired by plant longevity. It's a combination of the Enmei herb, Skingenecell 1P and vitamin C ethyl II, which is then blended with antioxidant-rich ingredients such as green tea, angelica root and Sakura leaf extracts. This formula helps to regenerate skin from the inside out. All that technology is wrapped in a delicious white floral scent, a blend of Japanese cherry blossom, plum blossom and rose which makes this range not only luxurious to use, but the results are addictive. Trudi Brewer spoke with Japan based Shiseido researcher Dr Eriko Kawai about what makes this skincare range so impressive.
Tell us how you discovered the ingredient SkingenecellEnmei?
Searching and researching various plant ingredients all over the world, we found Enmei a Japanese herb, collected from the foot of Mt.Koya. Enmei, in Japanese means, 'extends life span', or 'longevity' due to the legend that surrounds this herb. About 1200 years ago a monk named Kobo Daishi who was practising at Koyasan in Japan gave this herb to a traveller who had fallen ill. It was after taking it he became energetic again. So we have captured it's healing power and grow it on our world heritage property, where we cultivate and treat them with an organic pesticide, and then harvest, dry and crush the herb to use in skincare.
How does this combination benefit the skin?
SkingenecellEnmei has three effects. It promotes the production of longevity in the skins genes and controls cell damage to create a youthful and healthy-looking skin. It suppresses the ageing accelerating factor (Serpinb 3) in the skin, boosts cell turnover and helps create smooth, firm skin. Finally, it strengthens and protects the skin from future environmental damage. These ingredients combined with antioxidants Hokkaido Angelica extract, Uji green tea extract and Oshima Sakura leaf extract all work together to enhance the anti-ageing effect in the skin.

It is the psychological influence of scent. In Future Solution LX, a delicate aroma from Hamanasu, Ume and Sakura affects the nervous system to have a relaxing effect on the body.
