The statement wall is back

We are calling it: Statement walls will be one of the most dynamic additions to any living space in 2022. Louise Hilsz says it's time to experiment with textures, patterns, and paint colours.

A feature or accent wall offers a quick and easy solution to liven up your living space. From high impact patterned, or subtle tonal paint this decor trend will inject just the right amount of interest into a room without overwhelming the entire room, here are our favourites styles.

Tonal feature

A great way to dip your toes into creating clever colour combinations in your home is with paint in the same tones. Shades of pink (more sophisticated than that girly millennial pink), are on-trend for 2020 as well as soft peachy corals, terracotta, and golden yellow tones. These shades are all easy-to-live with colours for any living space.

Large floral feature

When choosing a spot for a decorative feature, this will become the room's existing focal point. Your eye will instantly be drawn to the wall and immediately highlight the space to become the focal point of the room, so let the room's architecture guide you when choosing the wall.

Make a dramatic design statement with dark paint, ideal for formal lounge, library, or sitting room. This style adds a crispness to any room, we think bold black or dark grey paint, with soft furnishings shades, feels fresh, yet timeless.

Watercolour feature

This trend brings a restful vibe to any living room. So many people are hesitant to decorate with wallpaper, we love it. Why? It makes a dramatic statement, and hides plenty of flaws, if the wall it's hung on is imperfect.

Mural feature wall

Avoid putting a mural feature wall in an already overcrowded room. When there's too much going on in one space, it can be confusing to the eye and create a sense of chaos, rather than the dècor statement. A mural feature wall should be the highlight of the room, so it needs room to breathe, a bedroom is one of the best spaces for this design feature.
