That familiar voice, and her trademark luscious brunette locks, has made TV1 weather presenter and corporate TVNZ voice Renee Wright one of our favourite broadcasters. She is absolutely as delightful (and yes, normal) in person as she comes across on screen, and like each of us, her family of five are attempting to stay busy and upbeat during the COVID-19 lockdown. Here are her tips on keeping it real, beauty, being a mum, and working through ISO.

How has life changed for you and the business over this lockdown?

Leading into lockdown, I was working both ends of the day. Co-hosting Breakfast Radio with Jason Reeves on Coast and working evenings on the TV1 6 pm News. When we moved to lockdown level 4, I have stopped working on the radio, but continued at TVNZ. We have been split into two teams so we can continue to bring the news to everyone’s living room each night. I work every Monday and Tuesday and then every second Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We have designated areas to avoid cross-contamination.

Behind the scenes at TVNZ, where life is also a little different due to COVID-19, Wright records the corporate voice alone in a studio. “Recording voice overs in a creative way today due to lockdown modifications.” Renee Wright.

What have you learned from being in your bubble?

I am a terrible homeschool teacher. I'm short on patience and always distracted with all the other household chores that seem to have multiplied in lockdown. I honestly don't know how I have that much daily washing when we're not going anywhere! Also, my children are particularly skilled at trashing a room in a matter of moments - and me, I am comfort eating for no reason, food I wouldn't normally even eat, I'm shovelling it in.

What have been your beauty go-to's during this lockdown?

Applying Elta MD Sunscreen when out on our family bubble walks, and I've gone back to my morning routine of celery juice and or a green smoothie for breakfast each day. I am an Estée Lauder skincare junkie and have been my entire life. I'm obsessed with their Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Micro Cleansing Balm and Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, they are perfect for my dry skin. My mum uses it too, and always has, I find the smell of those skin products so comforting to me. I've had microblading on my brows, but I use either the Kevin Aucoin or Hourglass brow pencils - to top up at home. I hardly ever wear foundation (unless, of course, I am at work on camera), I haven't needed to in lockdown, but when I do, Bobbi Brown BB Cream, for the day, or the evening, my go-to is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation, which gives a fuller coverage.

What are you looking forward to most when life resumes back to some normality?

Not having to pack and unpack the dishwasher six times a day, again, I seem to be cooking cleaning, eating around the clock. Seriously, I can't wait to enjoy coffee with my mum and dad; the kids and I see them most days.
