Trudi's edit

Foundation is a vital layer of protection between you and the environment. Add an SPF and antioxidants and you have a brilliant skin shield, with the added bonus of a radiance-making tint. Here are my faves for the summer.

For smoothing imperfections foundation is the go-to beauty buy. But is your makeup loaded with a sunscreen and skin-protecting antioxidants?

Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation, $57.

The first thing you notice about this new makeup is the scent of peach and milky fig. But, then you notice how nice it feels on the skin. Lightweight, semi-matte it doesn't look caked or patchy (like so many matte foundations). The addition of titanium dioxide offers a physical sunscreen and being oil-free it's the ideal base for when the temperature starts to rise.

Clinique Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup SPF15, $65.

The glow-giving benefits of this foundation are addictive. It's weightless and luminous, and while it's buildable to offer a decent coverage, I like the way it looks like your skin is bare, but glow-y. With the added benefit of vitamin C, and an SPF 15 if you have dark spots you want to erase and conceal - it's worth trying.

Max Factor SPF 20 Healthy Skin Harmony Foundation in Bronze, $40.

I love a liquid bronzer at this time of the year. It gives your skin a sun-kissed looking glow, which makes you feel instantly more youthful. Lightweight, yet long-lasting with the added bonus of not looking heavy on the skin. There are six shades including Bronze and Golden. Pictured here is Bronze.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation, $25.

Foundation is a brilliant barrier to our damaging environment, and the added bonus of even-looking skin is why I wear this new medium coverage, liquid makeup. With an SPF 20, it sits on top of a sunscreen evenly, and the addition of vitamins A, C, and E give your face brilliant antioxidant backup protection - it's genius. It comes in eight shades.

Burt's Bees BB Cream SPF15, $32.

If you like the feel of no-makeup, and the look of a tinted moisturiser, go for a BB cream as your makeup choice. As far as the most natural offering goes, you can't beat Burt's Bees. It will conceal brown spots, hydrate, and perfect the skin, and wipe out the look of dullness, while offering an essential SPF.  There are two shades Light/Medium and Medium.

Mecca Max Life Proof Longwear Foundation, $35.

It's impossible to visit Mecca Cosmetica and not find a great foundation. I've been wearing 'Life Proof' makeup for a few months now, and it truly lives up to its name. The brand say the secret to it's long-wearing ability and, nourishing benefits is the 'perfect blend of pigment-to-moisture care ratio', which is why it doesn't feel dry,  or look patchy after eight hours wear - it's brilliant. There are eight shades, and a Life Proof concealer.
