Why take Supplements

Why do we need supplements if we have a balanced diet?
Over 90 percent of us do not reach the recommended intake of vegetables each day. Veggies are where we gain our most abundant vitamins, minerals, and co-factors. Add to this; mass farming methods that affect the nutrient quality of our food, our busy lives, and stress, and we need more nutrients to rebalance.

What are the best supplements to take for women 30 plus?
All women are different, but these are our busy years and often involve balancing family and work commitments. A good quality multivitamin with potent levels of B vitamins will help with energy and focus. Natural antioxidants and minerals like silica are essential for hair, skin and nail health, and I’d recommend considering a good quality magnesium supplement especially if your life is stressful or you don't sleep well.

Should you take supplements with or without food?
It depends on the nutrient or herb that you are taking, so best that you follow the directions on the label. However, B vitamins and zinc are good examples of where you need to take these supplements with food.

Are there specific supplements that you should take to stay well during winter?
Yes. A probiotic over winter is essential, as 70 percent of a healthy immune system comes from a healthy bacteria balance in our gut.  Vitamin D is necessary especially in winter, and the incidence of vitamin D deficiency is increasing. Proper vitamin D levels are essential for a well-functioning immune system.

Can you do anything with your diet to boost the effectiveness of supplements?
Definitely. Eat more fruit and veggies. Nutrients work together; there are hundreds we need in trace amounts that help others work better. Eat as many brightly coloured fruit and veggies in red, orange and green; these are the most nutrient-dense varieties.

You offer liquid and tablet supplements can you take both at the same time and will this boost the effectiveness?
It depends on the ingredients. In the case of Swisse Ultiboost Hair Skin Nails liquid and tablets, yes you can take them both as they have different ingredients that target or have a different effect on supporting hair, skin and nail health. Swisse Ultiboost Hair Skin Nails liquid has silica and blood orange for hair and nail strength and collagen production, whereas the Swisse Ultiboost Hair Skin Nails+ tablets have additional liver support ingredients, offering broader supplement support.

How long does it take before you notice the effects of supplements?
It varies significantly on the nutrient or herb and also is very dependent on the person’s overall health. Studies have shown B vitamins can have a rapid effect on energy, whereas taking a supplement to strengthen nails is going to take a few months.

What's your best well-being tip?
Destress and share. Stress hormones are a game changer for our health and have a knock-on effect in all areas of our well-being. Incorporate mindfulness and support into your daily routine in the same way you clean your teeth each day

Skin brightening Skincare

Why did Swisse choose blood orange as the key ingredient in the new Brightening Facial Serum?
Because of its potent antioxidant action. The blood oranges we source grow in fertile volcanic soils in Mt Etna, Italy. Good quality soil produces more potent nutrients - also, blood orange smells divine.

How does it work in the skin?
Blood orange is high in Vitamin C which is essential for collagen production and breaking down pigmentation, (brown spots) which makes it ideal for a brightening serum.

What are the two skin care products in the range every woman should use?
It’s never too early to start taking care of the delicate skin around your eyes, so every woman at any age would benefit from the Swisse Hyaluronic Acid Firming Eye Serum. We use a combination of hyaluronic acid, peptides, and B5 to reduce the appearance of lines around the eyes.  And for a super intense hydration skin boost, the Swisse Hyaluro-Natural Hydrating Facial Mask is a must. Perfect if you’ve been indulging in a glass of wine or two and your skin is feeling dehydrated – or if you’ve been traveling.  You can even sleep with it on overnight.

What advice do you give women when choosing between natural vs. organic skincare?
Choose both  Organic means that the plant has grown without artificial chemicals or fertilizers which means we are not ingesting harmful chemicals. Organically grown ingredients are 100 percent natural, so skincare that is organic is also natural. Natural skincare is much better than skincare with synthetic ingredients. It can be a challenge to source natural ingredients that are certified organic, so start with natural and if it contains some certified organic ingredients as well that is a bonus

What's your best skincare tip?
Feed the skin from the inside out. The blood vessels in the skin deliver nutrients to keep it regenerating, hydrated and smooth.  Everything you eat, think and feel affects your skin. Show your skin some extreme love from the inside out.
