The self-tanning season is here with spring only weeks away. And the latest innovations to fake a summer glow are pouring into the BeautyEQ office. We have our faves from formulas you can use in the shower, to a natural-looking oil in a spray that tans and tones skin at the same, (honestly). But this month, St. Tropez introduces the first-ever self-tanning sheet mask, St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Face Sheet Mask, $16. According to Jacqueline Burchell, the companies senior vice president of global product and marketing, the one body part we are all hesitant to tan is our face - we agree. “We know that people go crazy for (sheet) masks, so we wanted to combine tanning and skincare in a convenient and innovative format.”
Here's how it works?
Packaged as a sheet mask, it’s infused with a serum that blends DHA (the active tanning ingredient in all self-tanners) along with powerful moisturisers, such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid. This combo works to give your face the ultimate glow: According to Burchell, the moisturising ingredients help improve the penetration of the DHA, enhancing the tan. Which makes perfect sense to us, as the more hydrated your skin, the better your tanning result will be. That combination of ingredients steeped in a cloth mask soaks into the skin to give your face a bronzed glow.
How do you use it?
There is no rubbing in lotion or spritzing skin required; you apply this one-size-fits-all sheet mask to freshly cleansed skin. It's a stretchy cloth mask; you position over your face, making sure you line it up evenly over our eyes and mouth. Leave on your face for five minutes for a subtle, very light sun-kissed glow, or ten to 15 minutes for that just-been-to-a-tropical-island tan. It's foolproof really, the formula in the sheet mask is a gradual tanner, so the colour develops and builds naturally over time.
Why do we like it?
You do need to be prepared to adjust the mask to get just the right fit. We thought we had our self-tanning down pat. However, we are sold on this new multitasker - it's now part of our weekly DIY tanning routine - you just sit back and watch the glow appear.
