Shiseido's new Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation and 7 Lights Powder Illuminator

Today's new generation of makeup offers more than just colour. This brillaint duo gives skin a radiant glow and hydrating benefits - editor Trudi Brewer trials Shiseido's new Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation SPF20 and Shiseido 7 lights Powder Illuminator.

I am looking for foundation and powder that will blur skin imperfections, but not leave my face looking like it is sporting mask of makeup. A foundation needs to be hydrating with pore reducing benefits - I like foundation to feel like a skin serum but delivers a tint of colour to blend away fine lines and the uneven colour from dark spots. So in a new how to series I apply Shiseido Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation SPF20, $70 with Shiseido 7 Lights Powder Illuminator the way I like to wear it for everyday.

Here's how to use it.

Step 1: To begin, press a moisturiser and sunscreen into skin, and then add two pumps of foundation to the back of your hand. Applying foundation from your hand, using a brush, helps warm the product and provides a seamless finish. It also stops you being heavy handed preventing a mask-like result.

Step 2: Start the application on the nose and blend outward from the centre of the face. The colour correcting, light-reflecting pigments help to bring luminosity to skin and give my complexion a fresh-looking glow. I hate the look of heavy makeup, I think it makes women look older, exaggerating fine lines, so I always finish by buffing skin with a clean fluffy brush to complete the application.

Step 3: To add a natural-looking contour, I buffed on the combination of honey, peach and caramel bronze of the highlighter. This helps define and sculpt the cheek area. Follow with a dusting of the other section, in lavender pink and white. This is a highlight that leaves a pearly glow just above the cheekbones where the sun would naturally hit skin.

Step 4: To make sure you don't have any lines where the illuminator starts and finishes, buff a combination of all seven shades over the middle section of the face to blend the foundation and highlighter together.

Top tips: The honey, peach and bronze shades contour cheeks and give your complexion a healthy-looking glow, they also double as an eyeshadow. While the white, yellow, lavender and pink shades brighten dull-looking skin. Used together you can buff all seven shades over the high points of the face to balance an uneven looking skin tone and knock back shine.

Here are the products that will create a luminous, makeup look, ideal for everyday.
