La Prairie Line Interception Power Duo

There are serums, and then there are kick-butt serums that make changes to the skin, within weeks. The latest from La Prairie meets that brief.

What is it?
La Prairie Line Interception Power Duo, $490. A step closer to topical Botox in a bottle.
How does it work?
For a start, the packaging is so smart and appeals to busy women like us. Frequently needing to pack an overnight bag for quick work trips away, the clever two-phial dispensing system containing both day and night creams is genius. As far as the contents go there are already creams on the market that claim to do the work of a muscle neurotoxin such as Botox, but until now they have fallen short. While there is no replacement for an injectable like Botox what we like is about this day cream is that it supports the work of Botox or mimics the effects of Botox to keep skin relaxed with potent peptides such as Palmitoyl Hexapeptide 52 and 18. The first peptide, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-52, reduces the neurotransmitters that (from your brain to your face) tell facial muscles to contract when you smile, laugh and cry. While the second peptide, Palmitoyl Heptapeptide-18 shrinks the channel, allowing even fewer neurotransmitters to get through and make that wrinkling formation on skin. It does require a science degree to understand the technology behind this product, however all you need to know is that the wrinkle effects on skin through expression and ageing can be reduced. With skin relaxed, these peptides get the chance to repair, leading to less of those lines and wrinkles we inevitably start to see as we age. Another essential in the day cream is an SPF 30. This sunscreen concoction contains four chemical UV filters that protect against UVA, UVB and ultra red radiation, all the nasties that cause wrinkling and brown spots. And finally the texture is what you can expect from a luxe-y day cream. It feels divine, thanks to hyaluronic acid and skin-brightening extracts that leave a plump luminous-looking complexion moments after application. The night cream is full of collagen-stimulating peptides, and hydrating ingredients that simply do the work to calm and correct skin after a day of environmental damage, giving your complexion the essential vitamins and nourishment it needs to repair while you sleep.
Why do we like it?
We are not suggesting that these creams take the place of your Botox shots. However, injectables are not for everyone. Dermatologists agree that neurotoxins like Botox are the gold standard when it comes to erasing wrinkles, and this duo meets the next generation of skin creams that come one step further to delivering line erasing effects, in a bottle. We love the feel and results, and the convenience of taking one bottle away for a weekend or overnight trip that contains both day and night creams packed with top-shelf ingredients, firmly focused on anti-ageing.
