Crushing on colour

It's time to embrace colour with your makeup. It's fun, flirty and a welcome change from the nude, black or grey. Sarah Simpson shares what's trending on Instagram.

EYES

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Eye Shadow in Golden Orchid, $49. MAC Kabuki Magic The Best of Everything Eyeshadow Palette, $88. Guerlain Ecrinn 1 Couleur Eye Shadow in Deep Purple, $57. Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Colour in Angel, $49.

When it comes to eye makeup, it's not about following rules with colour, rather it's about experimenting and playing with new shades. Whether you decide on a bright and bold slash of shadow bravely adorning your eyes, or simply a hint of colour buffed into your lid, the trends we are seeing from beauty houses right now, regardless of the shade, colour is here to stay. Jewel tones are reigning supreme for upcoming autumn - think decadent shades such as sapphire, ruby and emerald - all rich and regal yet are able to be muted for those that only fancy dipping their toes into the trend.

FACE

Lancôme Absolutely Rose Collection Cushion Blush Subtil in Sparkling Framboise, $77. Guerlain Meteorites Happy Glow Pearls, $125. Lancôme Juicy Shaker in Cloudy Candy, $45. Benefit CORALista, $53.

Thanks to the 2016 trend of contouring and highlighting, we are all aware a face is not finished without blush. While we don't encourage you to go too far down the bronze brick road of extreme contouring, we do think there is a place for a dusting of powder whether it be a pale bronze or a pretty pink. Make 2017 your year to play around with peach and pink shades to find the right fit for your day-to-day look.

LIPS

L'Oreal Infallible Sexy Balm in Adventure, $22. Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip in Pink Heather, $56. Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Carolina Coast, $18. Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor in Garden, $26.50 (on counter Feb 27th).

If you always reach for a pretty pink or maybe you crave a raisin-red, lips are still one of the easiest ways to experiment with the colour. Team a bold colour with a paired back look for some understated, classic glamour or add a glossy peach stain to finish off a bold smokey eye. Traditional bullets have made way for liquid lipsticks and crayon styles which are quick and easy to apply and give coverage that lasts the distance.
