Natural skincare and makeup are hot right now and global educator for Jane Iredale Natalie Soto-Carlisle tells Trudi Brewer why.
Between working backstage at fashion week and on the set of America's Next Top Model, L.A. based makeup artist Natalie Soto-Carlisle is on a mission to share on-trend techniques and natural makeup. Here's her advice.
What is on trend with mineral makeup?
Colour! We're seeing mineral makeup competing with conventional makeup lines, producing bold colours. While still catering to the "no makeup, makeup look". Any trend can now be achieved using mineral makeup, including the current bold lip and bold brows.
Does mineral makeup preform in the same way as mainstream cosmetics, if so why?
Mineral makeup performs a bit better because not only does it provide coverage but also protection, and many ingredients target skin issues such as enlarged pores and excess oil. It also offers the desired finish and coverage of mainstream cosmetics.
What about the ingredients?
It heals skin issues, conceals and protects all in one. The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide (natural mineral SPF) not only provides sunscreen it can help calm and tone down inflammation.
What makeup techniques are you most excited about right now?
Bold brows to frame the face. We are moving away from thin brows to polished-looking full brows.
What is the one tip worth remembering when using mineral makeup?
Not all mineral makeup is created equal, do your research. The right one won't require buffing and will give you any finish you desire.
What is your favourite look right now?
A clean, polished complexion with a pop of red lipstick. It's timeless and elegant.
Who inspires you as an artist?
Kevyn Aucoin will always be my biggest inspiration, even though he has passed away, his books are still bibles in this industry.
