I am always weary of matte makeup. First, it is designed to create a flat, finish, which can accentuate fine lines and open pores. And, it's designed to mop up excess oil, which can leave skin looking parched. However, the silky smooth, Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint, $70 doesn't leave skin looking chalky or flat, rather, it gives a soft semi-matte finish that looks radiant. If your skin gets shiny, you will have found your perfect match, or if your face has a tendency to flush, you are going to love this. But it’s just as flattering on my normal to dry skin. When it comes to shade selection, go for the slightly darker tone, (my pick was Malaga) if you're tossing up between two colours. It warms up to blend into skin seamlessly; you do not want to go lighter when wearing matte makeup, as it can end up looking opaque. Oh, and there is no need for concealer. I apply the Tint to skin, and then add an extra layer, using a fluffy brush, just on those areas that need extra cover. Your skin will be close to perfect, once you buff it with a dusting of Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder, $68 in Brilliant Strobe Light. This combination gives skin a semi-matte base, with a touch of illumination, just where you want a little shimmer - now that's perfection.
Both are available from Mecca Cosmetica.
