Facial mists

When the temperature starts to rise a cool, calming skin mist not only refreshes the face, Trudi Brewer says when loaded with antioxidants it can also protect it.

The fastest way to drench skin with moisture is to use a hydrating facial spray. During long haul flights, outdoors in the heat, or to refresh your makeup, a portable skin mist gives a hydrating and energising boost. To that point here's our top pick of sprays we could not start summer without.

Summer skin tips

1. Splashing your face with water during summer is one way to cool skin, however, once the water evaporates this action provokes dryness. Skin mists contain nourishing emollients, such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, so once they cool skin they hydrate as well.

2. To help moisturisers penetrate faster, dampening the skin with a facial mist before you press on day creams or sunscreen and this helps increase absorption.

3. If you forget to pack moisturiser on a trip away use a facial mist straight from the shower and press it into skin, it will nourish skin immediately.
