The Christmas Day makeup look we love

While there are a multitude of makeup looks for Christmas Day (and let's face it, it needs to match your new dress), there is always something stunning and classic about a nude, sparkly eye and a bold, red lip. Sarah Simpson shows you how to get her favourite look with some of her must have products.

There are a few factors to take into consideration on such a special day. Your makeup look needs to last as long as the champagne keeps flowing and it also needs to be light enough to wear from day to night - not to mention the car mandatory rides to different parts of the city visiting family.

Here is our step-by-step guide to nailing the look, just in time before Santa pays his annual visit.

Start with a good base, one that isn't going to let you down and it's wise to keep it on you throughout the day for touch-ups.

This look is all about the lips. So keeping your eyes sheer is essential, although a little sparkle never hurt anyone. Start with a nude cream base shadow, which will give the shimmer something to grip onto. Opt for a long-wear option if you can.

Next, pat a shimmery, sparkly shadow onto that base. Little and light are key here, as you won't need much to make an impact.

Choose if you want to team this shadow with a liquid liner. It looks gorgeous either way and simply comes down to preference. If you love it, choose a rich, highly pigmented liner that leaves a matte finish.

Brows should be a little bit wild, but by that we mean, slightly tended to with an eye pencil. Minimum intervention is needed - add a waxy pencil, which will help to keep strays in place, fill sparse patches, but leave brows looking slightly undone.

For a bold red lip look, you need a liner, and this helps nail the shape. Fill in the entire lip with the liner which works as an anchor for colour. Apply your lippy, blot then re-apply. One word of caution - red lips require constant maintenance, so keep your colour on hand to touch ups during the day.
